Hey!
I’m Farida Ayad, a filmmaker pursuing a BFA in Filmmaking at the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles. I specialize in writing, directing, and editing. Growing up between Egyptian and Western cultures shaped my perspective and storytelling voice, leading me to create films centered around identity, womanhood, and social issues rooted in internal conflict and perception. I am a firm believer that the human mind is the most powerful thing on this planet, and my work actively explores how inner worlds shape behaviour, truth, and the way individuals navigate society.

My Story
Stories have always been the way I understand the world. As a child, I would sit in front of a screen in silence, watching characters interact as if they were figures in my life. Long before I knew what directing was, I knew that stories had the power to change how I see, feel, and think.

Growing up between Egyptian and Western cultures shaped my relationship with identity and perspective from an early age. Experiencing both worlds made me aware of how truth shifts depending on who is experiencing it, and how deeply culture and law influence what is considered acceptable, possible, or fair. In Egypt, I became conscious of inequalities from a young age, they were embedded in social beliefs, and also in legal structures that I have personally been required to abide by. While women play an increasingly visible role in Egyptian society today, the reality remains that they are not equal, and these imbalances continue to shape how women see themselves and are perceived by others.
I am a firm believer that the human mind is the most powerful thing a person possesses, and my films explore how inner worlds, thoughts, fear, belief, and perception, can shape behaviour, conflict, and society. Challenging these narratives is something I do every day, and something I want women everywhere to feel empowered to question and resist.

Today, I create films centered on identity, womanhood, and social issues, rooted in internal conflict and shared human experience. While the stories I tell are not always ones I have personally lived, they are stories I deeply believe in and resonate with, I believe others do too, based on shared human emotions that connect us all. My purpose is to create work that lingers, films that invite reflection, challenge comfort, and remind people of the power their minds hold over the way they live.
