First Enemy (2026)

Adam, a boxer preparing for his first fight is confronted by a physical illusion of his self-doubt, named cain. After and intense conversation, he learns that the greatest battle is not fought in the ring, but within the mind.

Filmmaker's Statement

In this project, I wanted to explore an idea that resonates with my personal belief that we are often our own worst enemies, and that the mind can be both incredibly destructive and incredibly powerful.

This film came from the realization that so much of our fear, self-doubt, and failure is created by us. When we foster a space that invites those thoughts, we let them exist and grow, and they can take over, completely sabotaging us.

By turning the Adam's self-doubt into a physical figure, I wanted to show how real and overwhelming those inner voices can feel. The demon is not an external threat, but it is him. It carries all of his weaknesses, insecurities, and fear of failure, and provokes him until he finally reaches a breaking point. All because this demon knows him just as much as he knows himself.

The choice to name the characters Adam and Cain was intentional. Adam represents humanity itself, the first man to exist, a symbol of humanity. Cain, drawn from biblical, and islamic religious symbolism, represents the first betrayal and the first antagonist. He is the first enemy. First Enemy expands on the idea that we are the first enemy we meet in our lives, and in this sense, Cain is not only Adam’s enemy, but the very first enemy humanity has ever known, both symbolically and literally.

In post-production, I made the intentional decision to colour the film with a subtle hint of green to create a quiet sense of discomfort. This choice reflects Adam’s mental state, which is not at its healthiest or purest. This visually suggests the unease and internal imbalance that comes with constantly battling these thoughts within one’s own mind.

Ultimately, this film is about taking responsibility for the space we give our thoughts, and recognizing how powerful the human mind truly is.
